Sequencing is the fundamental building block for counting, leading to understanding the number system. Sequencing is the first step towards understanding concepts such as greater than, less than, quantities and patterns. This toy indirectly introduces sequencing as the correct number sequence ensures that the train picture is complete. It also aids logical thinking and memory development
ACTIVITY 1 – SEQUENCING
Remove the pieces one by one, placing the middle finger under the groove & lifting the piece up.
Then ask the child to find 1. Place the first piece back on the tray. Then find 2 and so on. Follow the order and complete the elephants picture.
ACTIVITY 2 – Memory Games
Make a set of paper number cards: 1-10. Ask the child to keep the cards on a tray in another room. Place a marker on one number on the puzzle. Ask the child to bring back the next number from the tray. Next time the child can place the marker & play independently. Same game to find the previous number.
SKILLS DEVELOPED
Placing the pieces in a specific order to form the complete train image acquaints them with the number sequence and progression from 1 to 10. With this toy, children learn to break down a visual image into 10 different parts and then reassemble.
Sequencing is a key step to absorbing counting,
